Abstract
Bladder cancer is an urogenital disease that can affects men and women, and 9,670 new cases an year are diagnosed only in Brazil. Transurethral cystoscopy is the standard procedure for the diagnosis and monitoring of bladder cancer. However, this procedure is extremely invasive and painful, besides being expensive and does not guarantee successful results. Moreover, in the early stages, the disease symptoms are not specific, being and similar to other urinary disorders, which difficulty the correct diagnosis. For that reason, in many cases, the cancer is only diagnosed at an advanced stage. Thus, we seek for effective diagnostic tests and can help in the early diagnosis and progression monitoring of bladder cancer. In this sense, biological fluids such as urine have an important role in diagnostic tests, mainly due to its noninvasive nature. We purpose the development of a rapid diagnostic kit, simple, inexpensive and noninvasive, that will assist the existing conventional methods. With the optimization of a colored polystyrene nanoparticles and functionalized production methodology we aim an agglutination test for the detection of different urine biomarkers related to bladder cancer.
